Roteract Club of Edge Hill, Ormskirk

Roteract Club of Edge Hill, Ormskirk

EDGE HILL is to have its first ever Rotary club this year, following meetings held yesterday.

Founder of the Roteract Club of Edge Hill, Ormskirk, Sean Parry, met with Directorate on Monday afternoon to discuss the final details of the setting up of this exciting new club on campus.

Pro Vice Chancellor for Resources Steve Igoe met with Parry and the meeting was hailed a success by the innaugural presidents.

“Steve said if we ever needed any help from the University it would be there; posters on campus, room bookings, holding events, etc.

“He seemed quite impressed with the concept that students were actually interesting in setting up a club that would benefit the wider community and not just another ‘drinking team’.”

Sean went on to explain more about the club.

“Well this was the biggest step as now with university backing we can plough ahead.

“We have had a meeting already with the Maghull and Aughton Roteract Club and will now give a presentation to them on 8 March on our plans for the year, before becoming an active club open to membership on 1 July.”

These are sure to be exciting times with some initiatives already mooted include running bingo nights at local care homes, bagpacking and race night fundraisers to donate money to local charities, a clean up of Ruff Woods and also a sponsored cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
